The Susan Dominus article “The Displaced: Hana” is humanizing. By retelling a day in the life of Hana Abdullah, this article puts a story and a face to the well-known Syrian refugee crisis. This mass displacement was a news headline heard worldwide that we’ve eventually grown desensitized to. Giving this crisis a face turned it more personal, showing that the war effects even the ones not knowing why it’s even taking place. For example, Hana often would say that she wishes she was back in her home.
Autumn was born in Florida on February 14, 2012. Autumn is five years old and a female. Autumn is an only child. Autumn has been at the head start preschool for going on two years. The mother left the father when she was four months pregnant, but returned just two months later.

Gilbertson’s techniques are extremely successful in demonstrating to the reader the harsh realities faced by innocent refugees and why the Greek government should be made to change their laws preventing these refugees from leaving their camp-like prisons. The abundant amount of emotional stories provided by authentic first-hand experiences supplies the reader with a strong sense of pity in what they are reading and work effectively with credibility and logic to further convince the audience towards Gilbertson 's demands for Greek law amendments. The portion containing the distinct breaking of the law by security officials in an attempt to help the refugees escape their camps is an excellent way of saying to the reader “if they can, why can’t you?” If any weaknesses were present in Gilbertson’s article, it would have to be her lack of clarity to the reader in regards to the link the reader would be making logically between what they were hearing and what exactly would need to be done about it. To elaborate, Gilbertson uses the disgusted feeling the reader experiences and eventually realizes to be from viewing what could be compared to torture, as a means to have the audience understand why these are human rights violations and why the Greek government should be responsible in allowed them a safe passage to safety.
In the speech “I have a Dream”, by Martin Luther King he talks about his opinions on segregation and why it’s wrong. He uses multiple rhetorical devices to make his speech sound more educated as well as get the point across with emotion to the audience. He used different types of diction to make the point that the negro is free and they never will be if we keep segregating towns and schools. Martin Luther King brought attention to that fact that the negro isn’t free because he is still segregated from going into places or working places. He wanted to inform us that the segregation is taking away the human rights that people deserve no matter the color of their skin or their gender.
On August 3rd, 2015, at or about 1817 hours, I was dispatched to 1700 North Federal Highway, Hollywood Florida, in reference to assisting Officer Baluja (CCN 3432) to a suspicious incident. Upon arrival both officers made contact with Loukeesha Mckenzie, herein after reffered to as the arrestee. The arrestee believed that her 2 children were hit by a white vehicle which was located in the back alley of the Kenwood Lodge (above location). While conversing with the arrestee, she then changed her story stating that she believed that her children were actually in the back of box truck. I observed Officer Baluja check for the arresstees children; which yielded negative results.
Every day, there are refugees fleeing their countries because of war, unsafe conditions, and dozens of other reasons. Even though a multitude of them are of different ages, leaving for unalike reasons, or are of various races, refugees can share many similarities in their journey to safety and prosperity. The same can be said about the differences in the person or trip, which may include the year they left, the country they fled from, or even the transportation that was used to deliver the refugee to their destination. Two refugees named Sahara and Hosein had notably different stories, but their treks also shared a bounteous amount of similarities.
It is a terrifying place to live, a refugee camp. Have you ever had to live in one? The violence that goes on, both physical and verbal, as well as the many armed robberies, still scares me, and I wake up everyday, so thankful that me and my daughter are still alive. But I do not want to experience another terrifying ordeal, because I know we won’t be so lucky every time. We could be the next to get robbed or worse...
During this developmental interview, I chose to conduct an observation/interview study with my one of my cousin’s child. This child is a 4 year old girl and will be identified as “child K” in relation to her first name. Her parents had no problem letting me interview her, but I had them stay in the same room as us. The purpose of this interview was to observe the child’s physical, cognitive, and socioemotional development. I observed her behavior and gave her several tests to show how well she has progressed.
This particular child is 15 months old, he is in a toddler’s classroom. He is classified as an IEP child because he has a physical delay. His physical delay is that he is not walking yet when most of the kids his age are walking already. He is struggling in the classroom because all the other children are walking an able to move faster from one place to the other. He constantly looks at the other children that they followed instructions when asked by the teacher to go and wash their hands.
The Syrian Refugee Crisis, five years and counting, it’s time for an end. Basic levels of human rights and needs are ignored and pushed to its ultimate boundaries, to the point of poverty. Those who are suffering in crowded and poorly funded camps scattered across the Middle East are receiving the basic needs in order to survive; it is not, and never will be, enough.
