Obesity plagues the world killing 2.8 million people anually on average. Obesity is an easily preventable diseas but still kills so many a year. Obesity is a growing condition and leads to life threatening disease. Obesity is a problem in this world that can be easily stopped by teaching students about the importance of eating right and excersice. Obesity is growing everday around the world at alarming rates. According to Stuart Goldmen, managing editor of clubindustry.com, the percentage of obese people in 2030 will exceed 60% in 13 US states. ⅓ of adults, not just the US but in the the world are either obese or overweight(Goldmen). Downtoearth.com states that the obese population around the world has increased almost 10% from 1980 to 2013. Colditz of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition states that the US spent about 40 billion dollars on obesity health care costs in 1980. Today the Us spends 190 billion dollars a year on obesity health care expenses or 20% of annual health expenses according to Harvard Education. That’s a 475% increase in a little less than 40 years.These statistics are only going to increase as the obese population rises. People who suffer from obesity have to pay higher for insurance premiums because of their condition. Some studies conducted by Harvard Univerity show people who suffer from obesity have a lower income than normal weight people. These studies also indicate lower household income than a normal weight family. Not only does an obese person have to person have ot pay some much more for insurance but the medical bills for the diesease caused by obesity are 9000-17000 dollars higher than the average person(Harvard.Edu).
