Chimpanzee research is a growing awareness in the world with many countries banning it and arguing that experimenting on these animals is flat out wrong. Chimpanzee research laboratories are used to conduct invasive experiments to test drugs on chimpanzees, this trend of using chimpanzees for research started in the nineteen twenties. During this time, hunters would capture baby chimpanzees and then kill any other chimps trying to protect the babies. Then, the babies are shipped to laboratories and are tested on for around a year. The United States is the last large scale user of chimpanzee research which has lead to scientific breakthroughs in the last century. However, after testing scientists usually neglect the chimpanzees, which causes abnormal behavior later in life. Although it is true that chimpanzee research saves people's lives, the costs of …show more content…
A select few chimpanzees are cared for properly, mainly due to trained professionals being on site with the scientists. (Marc Bekoff, former professor of ecology.) There are many cases of animals being neglected while in research centers, which causes the apes to experience behavior disorders during experimentation and after retirement. Chimpanzees are humans closest genetic relatives, and spend everyday exploring, crafting, and using tools to solve problems. These animals care deeply for their family, and show emotions like laughing and crying similar to humans. If human experimentation was done in the manner that chimpanzee testing was done, it would be an outrage to the general public. However, due to the lack of awareness of this problem, very few human beings speak out against this issue and try to rectify it. Public appeal of this topic is also incredibly low, and the topic easily becomes overshadowed by more pressing issues like war and the
