Fluency is the student’s ability to read a passage accurately and correctly with expression. Fluency is important just as well as the other components of reading, because it provides the line between comprehension and word recognition. Fluent readers also reads well when they are reading passages quietly; they recognize the words automatically. A fluent reader will read a text just as if they are speaking to someone naturally. As for Chloe who is a fifth grade students that can reads her sight words and decodes most multi-syllable words she encounter her fluency is not fifth grade level. Chloe will read her words word by word and does not shows any expression in her reading. Chloe goal is to be able to read fluently at fifth grade level. There are many strategies that can assist Chloe in her fluency. One of the strategies that Chloe can use is timed repeated reading. Having Chloe read the same passage repeatedly will help as well. Having Chloe paired with another student in the classroom will also help Chloe fluency. …show more content…

Timed repeated reading is when Chloe will be timed when she is reading a text. Chloe should be timed on reading passages that she have read before. There should include two copies of the papers one for the teacher and one for Chloe. The teacher will need a timer or stop watch which can be set at 3 minutes for the first few time due to Chloe struggle in reading. Once Chloe has progress a little the timer can then be set for 1 minute. As, Chloe is reading her assessment her errors should be monitored as well to see if some of the errors is causing her to struggle in fluency.
