Chris And Marina's 'Big Burn'

What are the large Factories doing to our environment? In the novel Big Burn written by Lesley Choyce Chris and Marina attempt to get the incinerator shut down for polluting the surrounding environment. Chris and Marina decided it would be best after they came across 4 dead merganser ducks on the outer area of the incinerator. After confronting Mr. Gibson (Incinerator Boss) about the pending issue Chris and Marina are kicked out of the building and escorted home by cops. However Chris and Marina’s intentions are only fueled more when Dial Chemical Company attempts to build a second incinerator at Rocky Harbour.

Chris and Marina were walking outside the incinerator when they came across four dead merganser ducks. They soon decided to get the ducks tested to see if the incinerator had killed them with its pollution. When they got the test results back Chris and Marina learned that the merganser ducks had died from heavy metal poising. This told them that the incinerator’s clay liner was leaking and polluting the surround environment. With this proof they thought they could get the incinerator shut down for good.

Gibson the person who ran the incinerator thinking he would do something about it. However after Mr. Gibson seen the test results he had Chris and Marina kicked out of the building and escorted home by cops. After Mr. Ryerson herd about this he decided to introduce Chris and Marina to his old friend Ed Keller the country councillor over lunch. After talking to Ed Keller for a while Chris and Marina were able to convince him that there was a problem at the incinerator after all and got Ed Keller to setup a tour at the incinerator for them. When Ed Keller took Chris and Marina to the incinerator they were able to see Mr. Gibson fixing the clay liner that was leaking although he did not admit to it in a heated
