At the end of Chapter 3, Krakauer says, “Driving out west of Atlanta, [Chris McCandless] intended to invent an utterly new life for himself... He was now Alexander Supertramp, master of his own destiny” (Krakauer 23). These assertions are believable as McCandless cut off his past by creating a new identity for himself and ceasing communication with his family. McCandless introduced himself as Alex to all of the people he met on his odyssey and he rarely spoke about his past before hitchhiking. McCandless introduced himself as “Just Alex” (Krakauer 4) to Gallien and as Alex when he worked for Wayne Westerberg in Carthage, South Dakota.
In the book, Into the Wild, by Jon Krakauer Chris McCandless is unsuccessful while in the movie, Grizzly Man, Timothy Treadwell is successful. Chris McCandless and Timothy Treadwell are similar characters in that they both had family issues and both went into the Alaskan wilderness trying to accomplish a goal. Their stories of what they were trying to accomplish and how they try to accomplish them are very different. Tim goes into the wilderness to protect the bears his favorite animal. Chris went into the wilderness to prove himself and to prove he did not need the outside world to help him.

Chris McCandless was in search of his true and ideal self. Although he had a lot of critics, he also had a lot of admirers. No matter what other people thought about Chris, he did not let it persuade him to change his outlook in life.
Chris McCandless (a.k.a. Alexander Supertramp), the main character of Into the Wild was very much alike to Gregor. He was more adventurous and didn’t share his family loyalty, but Chris did not enjoy being an active member of society, and wanted isolation, just like Gregor did. McCandless was just more willing to pursue it than him. He preferred being alone in the wilderness to having a job and an apartment, and he hated all the social conventions that came with being an active member of the human world, such as wearing socks.
Identity is the fact of being who or what a person/thing is. People will often change their identities to impress people. Some people don't actually know what their identity is. He believed that that in order to be one with oneself you must remove yourself out of society and push yourself physically and mentally to take in and comprehend the fullest understanding of life. Your identity are the qualities, beliefs, personality, looks and/or expressions that make you who you are. Your identity helps you find your destiny in life. Without the knowledge of your identity your life will be incomplete. One of the main ways a person can find their identity is by finding out who their ancestors were and what was their purpose in life. Identity is affected by the influence of society and how individuals influence society based on their identities. By looking at Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the Stanford Prison Experiment, and Sigmund Freud 's philosophical ideas, it becomes clear that identity is affected by society through peer pressure and social normalities.
It is important for one to find their true identity because it shows who the real person other people are going to love and relate to. It is important because it brings along other traits including high self-esteem, health, and safety. Finding your self identity is important because it helps you find the people that are right for other people, like real friends, not fake ones. It gives someone a sense of belonging to a certain person. April and Hercules both have ¨fake¨ identities and they both go on a road of self loving to find the real them.
Everyone belongs to different places, and everyone has a different personality and identity. Identity, or the way you characterize yourself, can change a person’s actions, words, and feelings. People feel the need to belong somewhere whether it 's school or at home or anywhere else. Everyone has different personalities no matter what age they are. Children 's’ personalities are to be nice, have fun and stay a kid forever.
For an individual to shape their identity, comes an extent to their freedom when doing such actions to develop said identity. Individuals have complete freedom to their own identity but there are restrictions to this factor. Understanding Identity means figuring out and understanding your values and establishing what certain things make you, you. Understanding this is the base for all paths that will help form and shape who you are at the end and who you want to be because it is an independent identity meaning it is you.
