I live in a very rural area with no Christian schools nearby. I reached out to a couple of Christian Facebook pages that I am a member of for insight on being a Christian educator. I always wondered what it would be like to share God’s love openly as a teacher. These interview questions opened my eyes to the curriculum, how to develop and nurture a Christian environment, unique characteristics, and the influences on students, parents, and the community. The first teacher that responded back to me was Jen Hicks. She told me that their school’s curriculum is Bible based and includes character building. She told me that they choose curriculum that meets the standards of their state. Jordan shared that the majority of Christian curriculum is lacking in meeting state standards. In the elementary, they use Christian science textbooks and stay away from any theory of evolution until middle school. When I asked her how she develops and nurtures a learning environment founded on Christian values and principles, she said that she teaches kindergarten. She talks about Jesus continually throughout the day. She reads the Jesus Storybook Bible and they sing Christian songs. Jordan emphasizes that they are a classroom family and they do everything out of love. What makes her school unique is that their school has a family type atmosphere. Jordan shares that Christian schools are more close knit. Their class sized tend to be smaller which allows more one-to-one attention for the students. Lastly, I asked her how her actions influences attitudes of those around her. “I want others to see Jesus in me. I pray that my actions are God honoring in everything I do” (H. Jordan, personal communication, March 6, 2018). Jordan also shared that not every student who attends a Christian school comes from a Christian family. She strives that her actions will influence these students in a positive
