Christianity is a major religion now and it was a major religion in the 1300s. The dictionary definition of a Christian is a person who believes in Jesus Christ; adherent of Christianity. It came from Judaism in the 1st century. There are three major branches of Christianity: Roman Catholicism, Protestantism, and Eastern Orthodoxy.

“Jerusalem symbolizes destruction and redemption, misery and hope, war and peace.” says the Jerusalem articles. “For over 3000 years of existence, Jerusalem has been the center of civilization and the foundation of faith.” Jerusalem is a city that is on the border between Israel and the West Bank.
The Crusades fought for the re-capture of Jerusalem, it was a popular place in the 1300s. Everyone wanted to have it under their control. King David made Jerusalem the capitol city of Israel and the first Temple to ever be built in Jerusalem was built by King Solomon. The city has a long history that goes back to the 4th millennium which makes it one of the oldest cities in the entire world. The ships were cramp and tight. They barely had room to turn during the night. Travelling by sea in the Middle Age was very dangerous. The journey would take weeks; there would be rats and fleas all over the ship. Sometimes there were animals on the ship and they would get out sometimes and trample the guest on the ship. The food was stale and so was the water. The pilgrims had lack of sleep because of the ship being so cramped. Another problem on the ship was privacy. The second obstacle is traveling by land. Traveling on land is also dangerous and difficult. The most dangerous route for the pilgrims was to the Holy Land. On land there were men who would come out of nowhere and you would get raped and no one would help
