When Christopher Columbus sailed to the Americas in 1492 america was Discovered which he also took our gold and tried to take the native land. Columbus used the natives for his own use. “Throughout his years in the Americas, Columbus forced natives to work for the sake of profits. Later, he sent thousands of Taino “Indians” to Spain to be sold, and many of them died during the journey.”
It stated that Columbus wrote in his diary that “they were very well built, with very handsome bodies and very good faces and they don’t carry arms or know them but he they should be good servants.” He then forced the natives into slavery and punished them by a loss of limb or death if they didn’t collect enough gold. This is what happened for the Native Americans when Christopher Columbus came. Christopher Columbus brought disease, made the population decrease, and burned people who didn’t convert to Catholicism. He was bad but he did bring the Columbian Exchange. Although we think of Christopher Columbus to be a great person he actually wasn't.
In 1492 a man named Christopher Columbus was given the opportunity to find a new way to the kingdom of spice, India. He was given three boats by the Spanish king to sail west instead of east to get to India. Once he arrived although he thought he was in India he had actually arrived in the Caribbean. After this discovery of a new world to the west, many European countries set out to conquer this new land. This new world was inhabited by natives, and once the natives met the Europeans it was downhill.
I believe that Columbus is a hero since he kinda figured about America. I believe that he figured our America since if he never sailed there no one wouldn't had known that America existed. Even when Columbus did figure about America he did hold some people as hostage to explore the area i think he just did that since he probably didn’t feel safe around that
On October 12, 1492, an Italian merchant by the name of Christopher Columbus landed on an island in the New World. With him he brought three ships and a small crew of Spaniards. After exploring other islands, Columbus came one that he called Hispaniola; here, they found seemingly primitive and naϊve natives that they immediately began to take advantage of. However, little did they know that this first meeting would bring exploration of South and Central America that would wreak havok among the Natives. Throughout the period of European Expansion, Natives were ripped from their home and forced to work day in and day out.
When you think about who discovered the New World you most likely think Christopher Columbus. There is a huge controversy on who truly discovered the New World. Columbus didn’t actually mean to discover the New World, he was trying to avoid blocks so he went the other way and found the New World. A place where the Europeans have never seen. The Natives believed that the Europeans are “edgy, rapacious, and remotely maladroit.” Sure enough, the settlers in Jamestown kenned little about farming and found the environment baffling. It was conspicuous that the colonists needed the avail of the Natives. Despite their inexperience the English dominated the Indians. Son of Darius the Great, Xerxes was accepted as a great king before having to prove himself. Arrogant in the knowledge of his lineage Xerxes lived by his own rules. Throughout his life Xerxes was led multiple invasions and conflicts, his swift and aggressive technique led him to numerous victories. Historians argue as to whether Xerxes can be either villain or vilified.
In the 1500’s Christopher Columbus discovered a new world. However, there were Native Americans who already lived there. Christopher Columbus and his people were welcomed with hospitality; with food, water, and gifts. Instead of being appreciative, the Native Americans were seen as salves. Native Americans wanted to help and exchange information, but instead they were treated with cruelty.
When the Europeans began settling in the new land many cultural differences began to arise. Consequently, this left the English settlers and the natives with fear and confusion. The natives of the new land had never seen anything like the Europeans; they had white skin, huge ships, dressed differently, and they had many different weapons. Christopher Columbus in his narrative, Report of the First Voyage, described them as “timid beyond cure” (“Report of the First Voyage” 18). He also stated that when he would men ashore to contact the natives “people without number have come to them, and as soon as they saw them coming, they fled; even a father would not stay for his son” (“Report of the First Voyage” 18).
Loewen argues, “The authors of history textbooks have taken us on a trip of their own, away from the facts of history, into the realm of myth.” As historical events regress further into the past, writers may misinterpret facts that they may have studied. A story of discovery and friendship or a tale of conquest, murder, and greed, which of these are Christopher Columbus’ true stories? I believe the best method to teach American high school students about Christopher Columbus’ story is through historiography because historiography teaches students to compare and distinguish different outlooks from different writers’ point of views instead of just remembering misinterpreted facts. Historiography would guide and force students to study and learn history through a diverse set of historians who focused on the same subject and come to different conclusions.
Many European explorers wanted to become wealthier in their travels. This is shown in Letter of Christopher Columbus to Luis de Sant Angel, where the text states, “I can give them as much gold, spices, cotton, and as many Indian slaves as they choose to send for.” Christopher Columbus is requesting that King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella fund his journey. He promises to make them rich in return. This demonstrates how explorers, like Columbus, were seeking gold and other treasures when they began exploring.
