The Superior English It is argued that Christopher Columbus’s voyage in 1492 is directly related to the ill-treatment and increased slave trade of the native people. From the entry in Columbus's journal we get a peek into his meeting with the natives, from the island he landed on in the Bahamas. Columbus is responsible for the Europeans first impressions of the natives, which set the tone for their attitude towards the native’s in later years. European’s attitude towards the natives is of being superior to them, the natives would be taken, converted to Christianity and become servants (slaves), but the English already had a well established superior attitude.
