On April 28th-30th, I was in Sartell High School’s production of The Drowsy Chaperone. This show is about a man who is feeling “blue” and decides to play one of his favorite musicals The Drowsy Chaperone. The show starts up with the characters introducing themselves, but trouble arises when a producer is in trouble with two gangsters because his leading lady is leaving the stage for marriage. Although the wedding is called off when the groom kisses “another woman” which was actually his fiancé. Eventually things really work out and there are four weddings in the end, including the original bride and groom.
The Inca Empire was the largest Latin American Empire with 12 million inhabitants at it’s peak (History). The Inca Empire lasted from 1200 CE until 1532 when their capital was sacked by Spanish explorers (Lockhart). In their beginning years, the Inca Empire had different emperors and conquered almost all of the land around their empire. This has lead to them making Cuzco, which is in Modern Peru, and is also the Inca’s capital. The Inca Empire’s prime years were with the Emperor Pachacuti, who rebuilt the city in the 1400 century.
The article I have chosen to analyze is from the electronic library of San Jacinto College website through Blackboard. The author’s title to his article is explanatory enough as to what is the author’s main focus. All throughout the article, the author listed examples to support his case study about the role of sleep deprivation or fatigue in the American Revolution in the Carolinas. The author’s purpose was to highlight that sleep deprivation led to fatigue and eventually resulted in the defeat at the battles of Cowpens and Camden. The author also added other factors that affected the performance of both the British at Cowpens and the Patriots at Camden.
“Now you hear what the house has to say…” This is the first line of the poem, Insomnia by Dana Gioia. This poem is about what happens at night when there is no one around and you are only left to your thoughts and the noises around you. This poem is a great representation of what it feels like to wake up with insomnia and be alone with only the darkness to keep you company. The language Gioia decides to use, fits very well in the poem. He uses descriptive phases like pipes clanking and water running in the dark to describe the way it feels at night.
Then comes the emotional stress. This stress starts off with lack of sleep. Senioritis cause the unproductivity to thrive, therefore
The Drowsy Chaperone is about a show within a show. It takes place around the 1930s. Janet Van De Graaf is planning on marrying Robert Martin but in order to do so, she has to give up her career as a showgirl. He works as an oil tycoon. Meanwhile, she is the star of “Feldzieg’s Follies” and the producer is relying on her to sell the show.
Nursing is the profession that never leaves the patient from admission to discharge. Due to the high emotional and physical demands of the job, burnout or nursing fatigue is prevalent in the profession. Burnout is a well-studied problem; however, there are very little changes done to prevent fatigue in health care. Nursing fatigue is an interplay of individual, organizational and systematic factors that negatively affect not only the health of the nurse but also patient safety. For the purpose of this paper, I will focus on the external challenges in the organizational level that might affect new nurses in their first year of practice such as heavy workload, lack of support and poor leadership style.
The example of this disorder is the people with this disorder have to rest more from doing simple activity such as walking. For example, the degree of muscle weakness may vary over hours, from day to day, or over weeks and months, tending to increase with repeated muscle use and to improve with rest. A short-term aggravation of symptoms may be triggered by a variety of factors, including infection, excessive
When one sees a car accident while driving at night , the immediate assumption is that one of the drivers had to have been under the influence of alcohol. The possibility of the driver falling asleep behind the wheel doesn’t occur to many. While alcohol may be a factor in causing most accidents, sleep, particularly one’s sleep debt, remains the underlying issue, despite its innocent facade. Sleep debt is the accumulated hours of sleep every night when one did not receive an adequate amount of sleep. William C. Dement and Christopher Vaughan evaluate the idea of sleep debt in order to reveal the atrocious reality of sleep deprivation.
Hans Selye’s Theory of Stress is a borrowed theory that can be applied to address the issue of nurse fatigue. Hans Selye was born in 1907 in Hungary and died in 1982, and became an endocrinologist after attending school in Germany. Dr. Selye’s specialty was endocrinology where he studied the effects of stress on the human body. He began performing experiments on rats to find a hormone when he observed that the rats were becoming ill. The rats were becoming ill because of the different injections administered and the various processes they were put through.
2 Sleep Deprivation in the Nursing Profession Sleep deprivation is known as a condition of not getting enough sleep that can affect the brain and cognitive functions. "It occurs when a person sleeps for fewer hours than necessary over multiple days or week" (Eanes, 2015). When we think of nurses we are reminded of people who promote the health of others. However, many are unknowingly compromising their own health by working those 12-hour shifts. Many times, its more than 12 hours when they are finally able to go home.
8. Hydration Station Your body needs water as much as it needs food and when you feel thirsty it means you aren’t drinking enough. Your body is forced to work harder than necessary when you’re dehydrated, thus causing fatigue. It can also leave you struggling to concentrate and cause nausea.
Nurses fatigue is growing problem nurse face each day in the healthcare environment, and he can be caused by long hours, sleep deprivation, and possibly by accepting extra assignments can be dangerous for both nurses and patient. These inadequacies can result in major implications for the health and safety of registered nurses and can compromise patient care which can lead to fatalities. (American Nurses Association, 2014). In my experience, being fatigued from working much 12-hour shifts consecutively was very difficult as I felt extremely tired, resulting in lack of focus, missing important details during the handing over the process with impaired cognitive functioning. This I found was detrimental to the patients and myself as it impedes quality and has a deleterious effect on patient safety.
It is urgent that we pace the amount of caffeine from energy drinks that we ingest on a daily basis. When it comes to tedious duties
Sleep plays a vital role in good health and wellbeing. It is with sleep that our brain is able function better since it gets the necessary rest it needs to function the next day, which is why it's important to maintain a regular sleep cycle. In order to sleep, people must go through a series of stages: four non-REM stages and one REM stage. As I fall asleep, I would begin with stage 1.
