1. Go-Go music is a manner of admired music that started in Washington DC and is made distinct by powerful, jazz drumming and the traditional African elements and singing with the biggest response from the listeners.
a. According to the article “Remembering Chuck Brown”, Chuck Brown is the “Godfather of Go-Go” music. He became known for the D.C. music scene in the early 1970’s after acquiring knowledge to play guitar in prison.
b. Brown chuck generated a distinctive rhythm called “pocket beat” sound of go-go, including funk, Latin and Africa and jazz rhythms with a call-and-response succession.

The fact-based go-go band has at minimum two percussionists, including everyone with a free hand is playing something that rings or makes a ringing sound. Similar to the majority of West African bands, go-go bands play for long hours not having to stop it, smooth and continuous taking the audience from one song to the other. Hence making the DJ extend songs for as long as the dancers respond.
