Is John Brown a villain? Yes, he is, too. John Brown was an abolitionist who was considered a hero for some and a villain for others. He fought for the freedom of slaves and was very violent. There is controversy surrounding John on whether he is a hero or a villain. John is a villain in the movie. John Brown should be considered a villain because of his murders. John Brown murdered 5 people in cold blood because they lived in a pro-slavery town, they did not own slaves and did not want to. John paid for 1,000 pikes to give to the slaves, fortunately these pikes never killed anyone. As well as trying to start a rebellion, John broke into a government facility to steal weapons, and this is considered treason. After breaking into the facility, John fought with officers and soldiers who were trying to arrest him and his allies. John was captured after a long standoff with the officers. John’s crimes continue to be violent and against the government with these actions. John Brown committed perjury while under oath. He committed perjury under oath, saying that he “never intended to commit murder or treason” after being arrested. John committing perjury under oath shows that he would lie to get what he wants. John continues to try and lie to get out of his situation, saying that he wasn’t ready for his sentence to be before others and that he forgot what he was going to say. John states that he would free slaves without bloodshed if he could, when he murdered five people in cold blood on purpose. John obviously lied just to save his own skin and would likely do it
