John Brown killed half of an innocent family who did not own slaves because they were pro-slavery. John Brown was an abolitionist who killed many people. John Brown also committed treason. This topic is important because John Brown started the civil war, so it is important to know about him if he was a hero or villain. John Brown was a villain because he killed innocent people, he committed treason, and he was very untrustworthy. John Brown killed many innocent people who did not own slaves. According to document E, on November 20th, 1859, Mahala Doyle expressed her anger towards John Brown. John Brown deliberately shot two of her sons and her husband because they were pro-slavery, even though they did not own slaves and weren’t ever going to own them. This shows that John Brown is a villain because he killed almost a whole family that did not own slaves, all because they were pro-slavery. Secondly, John Brown was a villain because he committed treason multiple times. In document C, it states that “Brown and his followers stormed Harpers Ferry but were eventually captured and he was later hanged for treason.” (Document C).
