Have you ever wondered who played the biggest role in the abolishment of slavery? John Brown was an abolitionist in the 1800s who played one of the major roles in the ending of slavery. Back then, the country was divided and the only thing that separated them was the topic of slavery. Slavery, obvious to us now, is very bad and John Brown contributed to the cause by trying to end it. John Brown was a hero because he freed a ton of slaves, he brought most people’s concerns over slavery to action, and without the extreme actions he took, slavery might not be over today. In most of the documents, lots of people were against slavery, but none had the brain or power to make it happen. John Brown did and was willing to risk everything. There were lots of famous people who were against the cause like Abe Lincoln, but there were also civilians who were against slavery and John Brown stood for them. John Brown is a hero because without the extreme actions he took, slavery might not be over. In the documents, there was really no one else that was willing to take extreme measures like John Brown was. Even up until the end, he was still a very strong believer that slavery was wrong. Even when he knew that he was going to die, that just shows how much his actions and this cause meant to him. we would never know that if his actions never happened, then slavery might still be in effect to this day. By doing everything in his power, he changed slavery for the generations to come. Some might say that John Brown was a villain because he killed tons of people and committed treason, but would slavery have ended if he didn’t? Maybe, maybe not, maybe not. We’ll never know if it happens. But we do know that his actions did have a big impact on slavery. Without him, lots of slaves wouldn’t have been freed and might not have gotten the chance to escape
