He brutally kills many innocent people just because they are in his way. Although John Brown tries to end slavery, which is a good deed, he does use violence, and murder people who are innocent; therefore, John Brown is guilty of murder, treason, and insurrections. John Brown not only starts a very violent insurrection, almost like a war. He also brutally murders people who are just in his way. Insurrection means a violent uprising against authority.
In document F, John Brown says, “I have, it may please the Court, a few words to say. In the first place, I deny everything but what I have all along admitted.”. He also said in document G that his statements clashed and that he did not intend for there to be any killing, but just to place the slaves in a condition to defend their liberties. This example shows that John Brown was untrustworthy and went against his word by denying all of his actions and even admitting to his statements not matching up at all. He also said that he did not intend for there to be any killing.
Killing is wrong, especially when the victims are innocent, like these three men. “... you can’t say you did it to free our slaves, we had none and never expected to own one... “ Mahala wrote in her letter to John Brown. John Brown was given $5,000 to help slaves defend themselves, but used it to attempt attack on their owners. The evidence in Document D shows the National Kansas Committee had sent John Brown $5,000 for defensive purposes on January 24th, 1857.
On the night of October 16, 1859, he and his followers, five of whom were African-American, attacked the lightly guarded supply depot, in Harper’s Ferry Virginia, where the supplies and weapons he wanted were being stored. The arsenal was easily taken. Then, Brown’s men moved to some nearby plantations. They freed about 30 slaves, who were brought back to the arsenal. The alarm went out and the United States troops arrived at the scene the next day.

John Brown was an abolitionist who wanted to get rid of slavery in Kansas. When John Brown was 55, he moved to Kansas and played a role in “Bleeding Kansas”. Afterward, he was involved in other events like “The Sacking and Lawrence”, and “The Pottawatomie Massacre”, the last thing he was particularly a part of was the “Raid on Harpers Ferry”. In document G and H, it proves that John Brown WAS trying to start a revolt, despite what he said in F. He said, in a letter to his friend, that he “wanted to put the slaves in a condition to defend liberties” (Document G), which translates to putting the slaves in a place where they can fight back, or in other words, he was supplying them with
John Brown entered a house in Pottawatomie Creek and killed three people who he thought were slaves. In the letter from Mahala Doyle to John Brown she wrote “When you and three entered my house at midnight and arrested my husband and two boys and took them out to the yard and shot them cold blooded”. Also saying, “We had no slaves and never expected to have any”(Mahala Doyle). The reason this evidence is so important is because shooting people who he thought were slaves shows he is a horrible abolitionist and cannot do his job correctly or in the right way.
He saw the wrong in owning slaves. He believed what he was doing and what he believed in was right not wrong. He was hung with the pleasure of knowing he made an impact on the world. John Brown tried very hard to do anything to please god and free slaves.
John Brown was a murderer who shot three innocent family members. “...entered my house at midnight and arrested my husband and two boys and took them out of the yard and in cold blood shot them dead in my hearing, you can’t say you did it to free our slaves, we had none and never expected to own one...” (Mahala Doyle Document E). By the time he got to his 50's, he saw that slavery was not going to end peacefully. This led to an obsession with the idea of serving justice to black people and slaves. John Brown figured that the only way for it to end was for him to go and use force on white slave owners, which consisted of him killing them or hurting them and forcing them to give up their slaves. During this obsession with anti slavery, Brown planned a slave uprising at Harper's Ferry. John Brown started plotting to raid the town of Harper's Ferry and seize guns from the federal armory.

John Brown’s actions have caused many people to suffer injuries or even death. He’s caused many problems and committed crimes including treason, murder, and destruction of property. This is important because he was the spark that started the first modern war, the Civil War.
