In May of 1856, a pro-slavery mob reeked havoc on the town of Lawrence, stealing property, demolishing buildings, and even setting the governor’s home on fire. Two days after the attack on Lawrence, a man named John Brown set out for vengeance.

John Brown was a villain because he killed innocent people and took them captive, he lied about everything in court, and he tried to start a civil war.
John Brown entered a house in Pottawatomie Creek and killed three people who he thought were slaves. In the letter from Mahala Doyle to John Brown she wrote “When you and three entered my house at midnight and arrested my husband and two boys and took them out to the yard and shot them cold blooded”. Also saying, “We had no slaves and never expected to have any”(Mahala Doyle). The reason this evidence is so important is because shooting people who he thought were slaves shows he is a horrible abolitionist and cannot do his job correctly or in the right way.

Then in 1855 he travels to Kansas disguised as a Free-Soiler with his sons and in May 24th, 1856 he ordered his men to brutally kill five proslavery believers. This event riled up the abolitionists and sent a message to the Southern states. According to document B “Last Meeting Between Frederick Douglass and John Brown” John Brown is a hero because he was willing to give his life in order to hijack the armory in Virginia and help the slaves revolt against slavery by using those weapons. For example it states, “He thought that the capture of Harper’s Ferry would serve as notice to the slaves that their friends had come, and as a trumpet to rally them.” “…Convinced me that he was going into a perfect steel-trap, and that once in he would never get out alive.”

After, September 11, 2001 John Brown has been called a terrorist which has caused controversy about Brown’s legacy and reputation. Furthermore, in the article, The 9/11 of 1859 says, “He led 21 men all but two in their 20s, and many of them radicalized by guerilla fighting in Bleeding Kansas, the abolitionists’ Afghanistan”(Horowitz).
Andrew Jackson was a villain for a few reasons. One reason why Jackson was a villain is because he put America at risk. After he won this first term as president, Jackson put his supporters in top government positions. This meant that Jackson put less qualified people in charge of making the decisions that are necessary for America’s success. Furthermore, even after the Peggy Eaton affair in which Jackson was forced to have his unqualified cabinet to resign, he still only took advice from his loyal friends and supporters, known by his enemies as the “kitchen cabinet”.
