Was John Brown a hero or a villain? I will tell you about his achievements and what he did in his life. John Brown has helped stop slavery and died for his cause by trying to win slaves freedom. John Brown grew up in a religious family with a dad named Owen Brown and a mom named Ruth Mills Brown in Torrington, Litchfield County, Connecticut. They moved to Hudson, Ohio because it was known for never having slaves, when he was 5. He lived from 1800-1859. He worked many different jobs because he had little money all the time, but one job he was bad at was a businessman. He was unsuccessful as one. Because he worked a lot of jobs he was always moving around. When moving around he ended up fathering 20 children. He was highly against slavery so he participated in the underground railroad. Because John was highly against slavery, he and some of his sons were willing to fight and kill for their cause. John and some of his sons attacked pro-slavery residents to help stop slavery.
