When he suddenly disappeared, it made it easier for him to let go of his past and focus on what he wants to do in the future. McCandless could make all his own decisions, nobody had a chance to tell him that he could not leave and certainly did not allow anyone to find out where he was going. When I look at my other pieces of writing, the “ Persuasive Letter” is the best one I could think of. As I look at the letter I can really tell I tried my best when writing it. I gave a lot of detail, and I did what the direction told me to do. Here an example from my work of how good I structure a sentence. “ I have come to realization that African American are more likely to be arrested, and receive more for a crime they commited than any other race”.

In the book Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell uses the persuasive techniques such as figurative language, rhetorical questions, and analogies to persuade readers that the American view of success is wrong, and that success is the product of opportunities, hidden advantages, and hard work. In Chapter Two, these techniques are used to describe his idea of “The 10,000-Hour Rule” - that belief it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert at something. Gladwell’s basis for the 10,000-hour rule is that people who are experts in their field became so good from hidden and rare opportunities that allowed them to practice their skills. One example gladwell uses are The Beatles, whom Gladwell identifies as one of the most famous rock bands ever.
Persuasion is the act of convincing an individual or a group of people to go toward a specific cause. In Patrick Henry’s “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” speech, one sees many of the rhetorical techniques Patrick Henry utilized to convey his message. Henry’s development of allusions, repetition, and emotional appeals evoked the members of the Virginia Convention to revolt against the British monarchy. Allusions were a major component in Patrick Henry’s speech that helped get his idea of revolting across to his audience. The colonists were frustrated with the British during this time, and Henry felt as if they were “betrayed by a kiss.”
The three modes of persuasion are ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos, pathos, and logos are used by individuals who desire to persuade an audience with a particular argument or claim. Persuasion techniques are often used by political figures, sales people, entrepreneurs, and just about anyone trying to persuade a target audience through emotions, character, and logic. The ad, I Am One, shows how these vehicles of persuasion are presented and used; rhetorical strategies like tone, attitude, and non-rhetorical strategies related, patriotism and history references.

According to Machiavelli, a prince who keeps his promises is generally praised. But history demonstrates that most success is achieved when princes are crafty, tricky and able to deceive others. A prince can fight or succeed by using law or by using force. The use of law comes naturally to men and the use of force comes naturally to beasts. Hence, to achieve success, the prince must learn to fight with a balance between both law and force.
The modern day politicians would not be likely to succeed by following the recommendations from Machiavelli. The recommendations follow a very strict and violent way of conduct. One of the most important aspects of the world is having a strong military according to Machiavelli. The ruler of the nation should also be practicing military tactics whether they are at war or a time of peace. In modern society, having family members who are off fighting in a war can be extremely difficult.
Harry, I agree that the persuasion principle of liking is great to take into the workplace to encourage and motivate others. Liking principle is based on sharing something similar with people you like (Nazar, 2013). Using the principle in the workplace, build a sense of rapport where people feel more comfortable with coworkers and they are more open to your suggestions. We are more influenced by those people we like (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013).
