Throughout middle school, I developed a strong interest in law, which I never lost. Because of this, I began doing extensive research on the qualifications and prospective career pathways in law, and this sparked my interest in becoming a City Attorney. Due to my growing passion, I started taking several classes through the Northwest Iowa Community College to get a jump start on my education. Since then, I've studied a variety of psychology courses along with others like Social Issues, Introduction to Political Science, and Introduction to Criminal Justice. These classes have taught me an immense amount about our political systems, and I will be able to apply my newly-found knowledge in my future endeavors. Along with this, I have taken every opportunity available to most effectively prepare for a future in law.
During my junior year of high school, I had the opportunity to job shadow Rachel Becker, who was our county attorney at the time. I was able to attend a court date with her and see the various elements that the law entails. I met other attorneys, observed conversations regarding deals and paperwork, witnessed meetings with clients, and met the judge. This was a unique opportunity for me to gain practical experience and get a glimpse of what my future might entail.
