100 years after slavery the Civil Rights Movement was created to help African Americans to get their rights in America. On December 1, 1955, an African American woman named Rosa Parks refused to give her seat to a white passenger on the bus. After her arrest, a successful year-long bus boycott was set by the Montgomery black community. Montgomery’s African American community then received Martin Luther King Jr as their new leader who helped run the Montgomery bus boycott. A year later, Montgomery's buses were finally desegregated and this event lead to the Civil Rights Movement causing African Americans to gain freedoms. In document #1 by the Bee newspaper in Danville, VA in 1954, stated that, “The Supreme Court ruled unanimously today that segregation of Negro and White students in public schools is unconstitutional.” On May 17, 1974, segregation in schools ended by the court ruling and schools were more convenient for African American kids. This might of been a good thing for African Americans but the integration process took a long time do to the school system denying the law.Another example would be document 3 by Daisy Bates she says, “They moved closer and closer. Somebody started yelling, “Lynch her! Lynch her!” I tried to see a friendly face somewhere in the mob-someone who maybe would help. I looked into the face of an old woman and it seemed a kind face, but when I looked at her again, she spat on me.” Elizabeth was a brave woman who continued going to school even though there was a white mob obstructing her. People of color like Elizabeth might of had the opportunity of going to a (white) district school, but in doing so they were constantly receiving insults by what appeared to be white mobs. …show more content…
In Document 9’s newspaper cartoon published by Sam Miliai in August 30,1969 you can find an example of a direct action. The image is called, Getting Ready for School because it shows an African American man preparing his shotgun while a black history book laid on the floor. These cartoon may sound like a negative thing because it shows influences Black Panther Organization had on other African Americans. They influenced them to carry firearms to protect themselves and stand up for those who couldn’t but it’s a positive thing because in doing so there also carry knowledge and pride. Document #8, talks about a episode 3 on a tv show called Eyes On The Prize featuring former chair of Black Panther Elaine Brown self defence. It also talks about providing their needs for food through Black Panthers Free Food Program. “The idea was obviously two fold for the specific purpose of serving those people who benefited by our programs. But also secondarily, to influence the minds of people to understand not only the Black Panther Party was providing them this...maybe they would want some abstract thing called freedom.” This document is for anyone interested in Black Panther Party. Montgomery Bus Boycott’s success left a mark of compassion towards their people, inspiring Elaine Brown’s Black Panther Party Food Programs to help out
