Imagine your front row at the March on Washington where Martin Luther King Jr. is giving his “I have a dream” speech. The Civil Rights Movement was a national effort made by African Americans to gain equal rights and to end segregation. The Civil Rights Movement gained traction in the 1960s. The various components of the civil rights movement are protest, civil right activist, and the NAACP. Many males in the civil rights movement did incredible things which shaped the future. The prominent men in the civil rights movement were Thurgood Marshall, Julian Bond, Medgar Evers, and Martin Luther King Jr.According to the NAACP, “In 1968, Bond led an alternate delegation from Georgia to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, where he was …show more content…

A protest is an action showing disprovability towards something. A few of the famous protests were Freedom Riders, March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, and Montgomery Bus Boycott. According to the website “United States Court” is states, “Through nonviolent protest, the civil rights movement of the 1950s and ’60s broke the pattern of public facilities’ being segregated by “race” in the South and achieved the most important breakthrough in equal-rights legislation for African Americans since the Reconstruction period.” “Groups of African American and white activists called Freedom Riders took bus trips throughout the south to protest against segregated bus terminals” (Freedom Riders). The article “March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom” states, “On 28 August 1963, more than 200,000 demonstrators took part in the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in the nation’s capital. The march was successful in pressuring the administration of John F. Kennedy to initiate a strong federal civil rights bill in Congress. During this event, Martin Luther King delivered his memorable “I Have a Dream” speech.” “To protest segregated seating, African Americans refused to ride city buses in Montgomery '' (Montgomery Bus Boycott). Freedom Riders caught the attention of the ICC which issued regulations banning segregations in bus terminals. The March on Washington pressured the administration of John F. The NAACP is an organization created by black and white activists to get equal rights for African Americans, and due to the violence against African Americans. The NAACP also helped people in the protests for civil rights.``The NAACP is the largest and oldest civil rights organization” (NAACP). According to the website “History” it states, “It was formed in New York City by white and Black activists, partially in response to the ongoing violence against Black Americans around the country.“ “NAACP” states, “Although the NAACP was criticized for working too rigidly within the system, prioritizing legislative and judicial solutions, the Association did provide legal representation and aid to members of other protest groups over a sustained period of time. The NAACP even posted bail for hundreds of Freedom Riders in the '60s who had traveled to Mississippi to register black voters and challenge Jim Crow policies.” The NAACP helped get integration of the armed forces, the voting rights act, and the civil rights act. The NAACP purpose was to ensure educational, social, political, and economic rights had no racial hate or racial discrimination towards them.
