The Civil War was a war fought within the United States of America between the North (Union) and the South (Confederacy) starting from 1861 and ending in 1865. This war was one of the most destructive events in American history, costing more than 600,000 casualties. From the Southerners point of view, this war was a War of Rebellion. From the North’s point of view this war was seen as a revolution. The United States experienced an era of tremendous growth, which also lead to many events occurring which lead up to the civil war.There was a huge difference in economy that existed between the country’s northern and southern regions. It contributed to the separation and disagreement between north and south regarding the issue of slavery and made the issue more contentious between the two sides of the country. The Missouri Compromise was written by Henry Clay. The Compromise didn't allow slavery in Louisiana and any territory that was once part of it in the Louisiana Purchase. Slavery was also forbidden anywhere north of the 36/30 parallel, except within the territory of Missouri where it was allowed. The Louisiana purchase played a key role in what is called manifest destiny. After the Louisiana Purchase America had extended all the way to the Rocky Mountains. Americans believed that the United States would stretch all the way to the Pacific Ocean. President k Polk believed it was manifest destiny to settle on land all the way to the Pacific Ocean in order to spread democracy. The people in the south were curious to have the State of Texas annexed to the United States. When the proposition was formally made, it was opposed by the people of the North, because the annexation would increase the area and political strength of the slave power, and lead to war with Mexico. Texas joined the U.S and became known as the “lone star
