I preferred Cleopatra over Spartacus base on its popularity, intrigue, love, tragedy, and quest for power. The movie opens with Caesar entrance into Alexandria, Egypt shortly after a battle in Pharsalus as he defeated Pompey’s army to have control of the Roman Empire. He suspected Pompey may have escaped to Egypt after their fierce battle to enlist the young Egyptian ruler Pharaoh Ptolemy XIII and his sister Cleopatra. The background setting shows the ancient view of the palace and the costume of art and fashion culminated with beauty and splendor. To his surprise, Caesars was presented with the severed head of Pompey’s by the Egyptians. The striking context that resonates with history was color symbolism that is the fabric of Egyptian culture.
