Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL): A Case Study

294 Words2 Pages
Role Description
The Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) is a Master’s prepared Registered Nurse who receives a generalist education, consequently, the CNL may be a valuable asset in numerous settings (Perry, 2011). Furthermore, the CNL is an expert clinician possessing skills to coach, mentor, lead, and reinforce evidence-based practice, and increased quality at the bedside (Rankin, 2015).
Rationale
The rationale for implementing the CNL role in the ED is to provide a quality bridge between leadership, clinical staff, patients, and providers that is currently lacking. Moreover, the utilization of a CNL will decrease fragmentation of care and unify the divergent disciplines involved in the treatment and surveillance of the ED patient (Perry, 2011).
