In the battle of Salamis between an alliance of Greek city-states under Themistocles and the Persian Empire under King Xerxes in 480 BC, the concept of fashion at that time is also one of the importance that historians need to mention in many pieces of research today. In the movie “300: Rise of an Empire”, the costumes were very different from the costumes in history such as the way people wore clothes, the materials they used for their costumes or how the clothes were relative to daily life in the past. It was a wide, rectangular tube of material secured along the shoulders and upper arms by a series of fasteners. The chiton was stopped at the ankles of the wearer, but sometimes the athletes, warriors or slaves wore shorter chitons for the vigorous activities. The surfeited fabric would be pulled over the belt, which was fastened around the waist. The chiton of the Greek man was shorter and not ample. The Greek also had peplos in front of the chiton in order to cover the chest. The peplos was described as a square piece that covered the chiton in their costumes. The peplos was folded over and pinned at both shoulders, leaving the cloth open down one side and was fastened by a belt with clothing at the waist. Himation was a part of the Greek to wear in cold weather and was also known as a simple outer garment to cover the peplos or chiton. The himation was made from a heavy rectangular material and was pulled under the left arm and pinned at the right shoulder at the way with the cloak. The chlamys which was a smooth rectangle was made from the woolen material. It was usually worn by men for military or hunting purposes and was fastened at the right shoulder with a brooch or button. Sandals, slippers, soft shoes, or boots was very simple footwear in normal life, but usually, they went barefoot at home. The ancient Greek used to know how to use ornamentation such as jewelry to elaborate hairstyles and make-up was very common for women in the ancient period, although was very simple at that time. They also sewed gold ornaments onto their clothing and would glitter as the moved. The ancient Greek used materials such as silk, linen and most often, wool.
