Keke Damelio Mrs. Mowery American Literature Sunday, April 29 The 1920 Style Have you ever wondered what the common style in the 1920’s was like? How clothing styles were different from what they were? During the 1920 era there was many new and different styles for children, women, and men. With World War I ending people wanted to change with time. When the men came home from war, they seen their closets were filled with outdated clothes. The women wanted to have the ability to dress more freely and express themselves. Most of the clothing of this time was homemade and was made to look more casual. To begin, let’s start with the clothing styles for the children. The younger children wore rompers, short dresses replaced the frilly lace dresses and other formal baby wear. The older girls dressed different as well, they were usually seen wearing items such as cotton frocks(dresses), cardigan sweaters, and canvas shoes or sandals. They could dress the way they wanted, be more comfortably and they were able to express themselves through their clothing. Before 1920, women were not as free to express themselves through clothing. Most of the clothing style came to be after the war ended(1914-1918). The flapper dress era has been around from 1920 to about 1930. In conclusion,as styles of everything changing over time, new styles were introduced while others were replaced. As the clothing styles changed, people’s perspective changed as well. They were in more comfortable clothing and they would dress more freely, which changed people's attitudes towards everything and anything. People were genuinely more happy and satisfied. The people were free to dress to express. There were so many different types of people conversing in the 1920’s. Works
