An NFL football player will endure somewhere between 900 to 1500 blows to their head over the course of a single season. With an immense amount of blows like this comes an immense amount of damage to a player’s brain. This extensive amount of brain damage has been decided, by Dr. Bennet Omalu, to result in chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE. Over the course of these discoveries and much controversy, the NFL has been targeted, denied all accusations, done very few things to lessen the risk of concussions in football, and the risks and number of concussions have steadily increased throughout the league’s
Anyone who has had a brain injury in the past needs to be aware of the symptoms of CTE, not only for themselves, but also for the people around them. People think banning football would decrease the amount of head injuries, “Characterized by hard tackles and intense speeds, the sport is conducive to a number of serious injuries, but there is one that has received a substantial amount of attention: mild traumatic brain injury and concussions” (Grush). Injuries can be prevented by the coaches focusing more on tackling the right way to anticipate injuries having to do with not doing it the right way. Also, most deaths having to do with football do not have to do with concussions, but with heat strokes. This can be prevented by pushing back the practicing season for football. Another thing, kids and parents know what they are getting into with the dangers and all, but they sign up anyway.
CTE is caused by smaller, more impactful hits that cause the head to be snapped back as shown here (Video from Youtube). That kind of collision could cause the brain to have just as much damage as a concussion. There are even more videos of children having big hits during games and it’s wrong because it’s dangerous and doesn’t show proper technique, and parents who view the children as smart and trusted individuals condone and even encourage it to the children. It’s disgusting. To sum up, everything that has been stated, children under the age of 14 who play tackle football are more likely to have brain damage, CTE, and
Dr. Bennet Omalu stated that children's brain do not fully develop until they are about in the 18-25 years old range. This would end up making their brains more likely to be harmed and damaged and if a child receives many repeated blows to the head they can end up with permanent brain damage which can also lead to bad side effects later in life. Concussions and injuries to the head are a big problem in football. So why should we allow the most vulnerable to be put in harm's way and risk their futures? The answer is we should
There are many sports that are too dangerous for children because they aren't fully developed yet and they have a high chance of being severely injured. It is a deadly brain disease that can develop from the repetitive hits and tackles young football players experience. Many parents start their children out at a very young age. However, because younger football players' brains and bodies are not fully developed, they are more vulnerable to injuries, mainly to their brains.

However, it is difficult to disregard all of the benefits that football has to offer for a child growing up. The most optimal solution to the problem is allowing kids to play flag football rather than contact football at an early age. This would ensure that children are still receiving the many social and life lesson benefits that football has to offer while limiting the amount of danger involved. This would help prevent any brain damage to children between eight and twelve which is a critical point in a child’s development. In order to ensure that tackle football does not completely disappear, kids and their parents could be given the option to switch from flag to contact football at the age of fifteen, or freshman year in highschool.
