I was able to improve because of all the essays I wrote throughout the semester along with the helpful feedback from my peers and my professor. Throughout this semester I became more confident with expressing myself and I credit that all to my classmates and professor. When I came into freshman composition II, I was still not aware on how to format my papers. In the beginning, I knew what MLA format was, but I did not fully understand all the details that went into it. Before this class my previous teachers did not use this format as much.
Throughout this eight-week summer course, I have learned a lot more than I learned in my Rhetoric 101 class that was over the course of a whole semester. As we learned the first day of class, rhetoric is the art of persuasive speaking and writing. In Rhetoric 101 my writing skills improved drastically, however, throughout this eight-week course they have improved even more. In Rhetoric 101 I never had to give any form of oral presentation, in Rhetoric 102 when I was asked to give one I was nervous. With all the help and preparation, we had before the presentation my nervousness was eased
Going into this class, I expected to just receive a high grade; however, I gained many more things. I was able to identify things I still struggle with in my writing. Tone and writing to my audience is the main skill I needed improvement on. On the first assignment, the personal narrative, I struggled in making the audience feel my story instead of just hearing it. Although I received feedback about my lack of tone from my peers and Professor Cindy, I did not put it into full consideration as my individualist writing mentality from high school carried over into college.
On many levels my style of writing has changed, I believe that I have got a lot better in my writing. It’s still very clear that I have a lot of areas that I need to work on. At first, I couldn’t actually believe the grade that I received on my diagnostic essay, that grade gave me hope that I would be able to past this class. Overall, I believe that I have improved or changed in these areas, writing in a style that clearly communicates meaning, builds credibility, and inspires belief or action, developing ideas and synthesize primary and secondary sources within focused academic arguments, including one or more research- based essays, and formulating a thesis and argument appropriate for an academic audience that analyzes literature and/or
How have I improved as a writer? I am thinking about my action plan as a writer have I improved, have I met the goals I set out to achieve on my first day of class, and what have I learned in this class? I will go over my time in this class and review the various topics I mentioned above and more. Looking back over my time in this class I will critique and praise myself. How I felt about writing when I first started this class compared to how I feel now, I would have to say I am more comfortable with writing.
When it comes to Rhetorical knowledge, I have developed mine throughout the semester in WRTG 120. After analyzing different writing and visual assignments for rhetorical appeals, I have gained a better understanding of the term Rhetoric and how this can help with my writing. The next topic is the writing process. I have increased my knowledge on the writing process in this class after doing multiple drafts for each of the projects we did throughout the class. Doing multiple drafts and revising over and over again helped me realized how much you can change a piece of writing to make it sound that much better.
In conclusion, the most significant concept I want to improve is putting all my thoughts together and organized into a well written paper. I also commit to putting a larger effort into accepting my mistakes and fixing them. I know this class will prepare me for the future for the reason that my struggle with communicating in writing is not something I can avoid. It is a skill that I will need everyday, through college, through a career, and throughout my whole
I came into my first college writing class feeling prepared thanks to you and your investment in me as a student in your AP Lang class. I developed as a writer more than I ever had in your class, and it definitely helped me in my college writing class this semester. I already knew how important it was to revise and continuously critically think about my writing, as well as the importance of multiple drafts and peer review. My English 110 class this semester was very similar to yours because we also did multiple drafts where I could revise my paper as many times as needed. The big difference was that the focus was on different genres and how to appeal to those, which was something new compared to my high school English courses.
My plan for academic literacy improvement has progressed well this semester. Firstly, I followed my plan to engage with the unit topics and the learning activities and contributed to the discussion board regularly, paying attention to feedback from my tutor and peers, and remaining positive. I also reviewed all collaborative session recording and each week and implemented some of the advice from the sessions in my writing in my writing. For example, analysing my writing to ensure that I was avoiding using a fragment rather than a sentence.
For each writing assignment, I will keep a journal to remind myself of the goals that I have outlined above and mentally check them off before I submit my writing assignment. My second improvement would be the ability to speak in front of the large group of people, as stated in my Intro Letter, Although, I have overcome this problem over the years; I still feel some anxiety once giving a speech to my fellow classmates in the new college environment. Below are my steps to achieve my goals: -- Prepare an outline and speak clearly and slowly Practice the speech/presentation with a small group of people. --
I believe that I have learned many useful lessons this semester. At the start of this semester I honestly did not know how to write a proper essay. There were several big problems with my writing style. My poor grammar and lack-luster writing skills were a real problem. I feel more confident now that I have written some decent papers and come close to completing my first English class.
Skills such as proper grammar and MLA format still need some adjustment. Even though I have things to improve, I was still able to improve some areas of my writing skills regardless even if it was a small improvement. In the beginning, like
I’ve grown as a student of English this term. I worked on several things including my weaknesses, what i struggle with on a daily basis and even my strengths. Doing this has helped me become a better reader, writer, thinker and a better person. I’ve also use the resources available, like going to tutoring and asking for help when i still feel stuck on something. Going for help is much better than trying to figure out for myself what i needed to work on.
My Writing Experience In previous courses, my writing skills have been mediocre or just enough to pass the class. Throughout the duration of this course, I have written a variety of papers using different techniques and skills. Previously I would write assuming that the only audience would be my instructor. This course has helped me realize that there are many steps and skills involved with writing a well-organized and easy to comprehend essay.
There are other areas in my writing that I have improved on. I have improved on my grammar, verb constructions, use of verb tenses and organizational skills to make my writing flow better when reading. My overall progress in completing this ten weeks course was wonderful. Every steps and skills I learned in this English class will help me to improve on my writing skills in my other classes and will also help me in my future
