Everyone can appreciate a good commercial. Coca-Cola is one of the companies that is known for its iconic, or funny commercials. The vintage Coke commercial “I’d like to buy the world a Coke” was first aired in 1971 and has since become remembered by many as a classic. This commercial specifically was made to promote Coca-Cola as a drink that can bring everyone together. Regardless of any of their differences, everyone can enjoy a Coke with one another. This is an approach that Coca-Cola actually seems to take quite often. Regardless, there is a lot more to this commercial than what is on the surface. The same can be said for any advertisement in all honesty, there is a lot that goes into making a good commercial actually good.
The warrant of this commercial, or the claim, is that Coca-Cola is a drink that can unite people all around the world. How is this shown? The commercial shows a very diverse group all enjoying a Coke together. It shows people of all different races, nationalities, backgrounds, and ages all sharing a Coke. However it can be something that brings people together and promotes understanding. It acknowledges the fact that there are still a lot of issues in the world and that things are never going to be perfect. Despite this, it suggests that by sharing a Coke, we can make small steps in the right direction by being unified. This gives people hope. Though there are things that divide us, there are also things that can bring us closer together. The lyrics of the commercial’s song suggest that the world would be a better place if everyone could share a Coke.
