The media will begin to challenge these college coaches on the power that they have over their athletes. Coaches will be a little more cautious on how they get in there athlete’s face and what type of language is being used. Future coaches will understand their freedom may be as much at stake as their reputation and salary if they choose to go the abusive route. Especially if they are being filmed in practice. An article in the CBS DC sports feed states, “Coaches should walk on eggshells to maximize their players’ potential, but rather, the days of unchecked authority have come to an end. Coaches must now allow reason and common sense to underline each of their decisions” (Lingeback, 2013). Athletes will be aware of their coaches behavior on what is accepted and what is not ethical during practices and games. Athletes will have the courage to speak up and defend themselves and not feel threatened of keeping silent because of the possibility of losing their scholarship or getting dismissed from the team. A code of ethics for each sports program should be the welfare and protection of every person they come in contact with in their program. It is our responsibility as a coach to aspire to the highest standards possible to respect, protect human and civil rights, and do not condone unfair discriminatory practices. We need to be accountable for everything that takes place within our program. As Maxwell (2003) states, “It’s ironic. We don’t like to be reminded of our shortcomings, and we don’t like our shortcomings exposed to others either. But if we want to grow, we need to face the pain of a person’s life, and accountability is the cornerstone” (p.50). Therefore, if a team is going to grow and mature, the need of coach - player and player – player accountability is
