Being able to communicate effectively is an essential part of our social, cultural and economic lives. To survive in this world today, the ability to communicate is vital. Today, we have more ways to communicate with audiences and less time to accomplish the task. Emotional advertisements that focus on social issues is crafted to deliver a message by grabbing your senses and evade your thoughts. Physicians realize and understand the negative impact of their past mistakes by promoting smoking. In my mind, smoking is a behavioral issue and it is difficult for physicians to convince individuals to stop once they have started. As in this ad, the physician is asking his reader to take action and be a “quitter” just like him. Persuasion plays a role in the effectiveness of the ability to influence positive change in behavior. According to Wikipedia (n.d.), persuasion provides the ability to influence one’s philosophies, posture, objectives, incentives or conduct. In the ad, the physician is trying to persuade the reader into a behavioral change. Including a component to Social Change has an impact on the ability to change behavior, raise consciousness, and sway social standards. According to Duffey (2017), we have the power to bring positive change by “how and when we interact with others.” Greenhalgh, Stillman, & Ford (2016) says that Social Cognitive Theory plays a role in the media because it suggests that individuals understand the behaviors of others by watching, teaching and displaying of actions.
