PREVIOUS MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT (INCLUDING SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT): Sue was held in county jail for a few days after she pled guilty to charges of possession, sale of an illicit substance, and of engaging in prostitution. She attempted suicide one night by stuffing her throat and nose with clothing while in jail and awaiting her preliminary hearing. She was then transferred to a local inpatient unit for crisis evaluation and services, including medication. • Counseling has been provided to Sue which focuses on reducing her substance use, skill building, adherence to a recovery plan, and social, family, and professional/educational outcomes. • A counselor has been provided to Sue with a variety of therapies which helps treat her substance use. 1). Cognitive-behavioral therapy has taught Sue to recognize and stop her negative patterns of thinking and behavior. With cognitive-behavioral therapy, Sue can be aware of the stressors, situations, and feelings that lead to drug abuse, financial problems, and prostitution, so that she can avoid it all or even act differently when they occur again. 2). Contingency management is for Sue to reinforce positive behaviors, such as remaining abstinent from drug abuse. 3). 12-step facilitation therapy has sought to guide and support Sue’s engagement in 12-step programs such as Substance Abuse Treatment and other recovery group support for cocaine dependence. • …show more content…
