Collectivization of land was introduced to distribute land equally for each family or person. To achieve this, the landlords had to give out their land for the sake of equal distribution. It is hard to believe that giving out the land unconditionally with no reward as a return, is fair. It is a matter of human nature which here means “selfishness” lied underneath. This was the major reason why the practices mentioned above were all quite impossible to carry out successfully. No matter the industrialization or the collectivization, they required the people to be unconditionally loyal and generous which is really impossible. Soviet Union was supposed to unite the communist party and consolidate the regime by making the satellites grow stronger. Yet, the Soviet Russia focused too much on fighting against the US rather than developing its own economy. During the Cold War (1949-1991), there was an intense conflict between the communist and capitalist blocs. The communist bloc was led by the Soviet Russia while the capitalist was led by the US. At the time, the two blocs undertook various measures to keep a strict control among their satellites in economic, political, cultural, social and diplomatic aspects. Economically, the two blocs established different plans to develop their economic systems and they were the Marshall Plan by the US and the Molotov Plan by the Soviet Union. The two blocs were rival towards each other that they cooperated among the members based on the plan they follow in order to develop their economy. Russia which under the Soviet regime, was one of the major states that adopted the policy of state-owned property. Initially, the plan was to sustain its economy to withstand the capitalist bloc. Nevertheless, Soviet Russia was not affluent enough to give fund to the economy, not to say supporting its satellites. Soviet Russia soon followed this idea by introducing the Warsaw Pact (allied with the “Council for Mutual Economic Assistance” (CoMEcon) in 1955, which was the military alliance formed by the Soviet Russia, for the mutual defense for the communist countries, mainly the central and Eastern European countries. They were forced to join the pact because they seeked for defense from the USSR but they had to obey the plans and rules made by the Soviet government. Similar to the economic plan mentioned above, the monetary funding for its satellites were not sufficient, resulting in the failure and withdrawal of the members like Romania and Germany, which were two of the countries that triggered the end of the pact in 1991.
