I believe that to speak another language is to make the world a bigger and better place. To me, languages encapsulate a whole new world of literature, history and culture. They open doors to opportunities some can only dream of and allow you to meet people who would have otherwise been strangers. They are a way to express oneself and communicate with others in a different and new way. And for these reasons, it is one of my greatest goals in life to learn, and speak, as many foreign languages as possible.
Since beginning to learn Spanish aged 10, my love of the language and culture has grown hugely. Although it began in the classroom, it quickly became more than that as I began enjoying Spanish cinema, literature and music, with films such as

Studying and loving Spanish has led to my enthusiasm to learn other languages, French in particular. Studying French in school is something I have found extremely rewarding as it has been challenging but I see myself improving daily and enjoy it immensely. French history and politics are extremely interesting to me, as someone who has an interest in international affairs, and I feel that the opportunity to continue to study French would benefit me hugely as it would allow me to keep exploring French and to develop my passion further.
The process of learning both French and Spanish has not only shown me the power and beauty of language and the ability it has to break down barriers, but has shown me the huge rewards that come from the commitment and dedication it takes to learn a foreign language.
Since August, I have been volunteering weekly in a primary school where I help to teach
Spanish. This is something I feel hugely privileged to be able to do and enjoy immensely. I feel that through working with both the pupils and teachers, I have improved my ability to work with a diverse group of people.

I am also part of the Malawi partnership which has opened my eyes to the struggle others face as well as helping me to become a more empathetic person. As part of the Rights Respecting Schools group I have given a presentation to S2 pupils which has improved my confidence in presenting to large groups. Yearbook committee has helped me to become more organised and responsible as I have had to keep money and yearbook forms safe.
I have balanced a part time job with my studies since S2. This is something I feel has been hugely beneficial to me as I have learned the importance of time management and prioritising.
Working in customer service has taught me a great many skills, including communication, people skills and how to work under pressure. I believe that working part time has shaped me into a well-rounded and mature individual who can handle any challenges thrown her way, personally, professionally and academically.
After university I hope to work as an interpreter for a multinational organisation to allow me to travel and work with people from all over the world. I feel that a Spanish and
