College Admissions Essay: A Career As A Police Officer

Remember when you were little you and had strange hopes and dreams? Some kids wanted to be astronauts or a firefighter, and then some had strange dreams like being a teenage mutant ninja turtle. When I was little I always wanted to be a teacher. Like an art teacher, I loved doing little arts and crafts and wanted to pursue that by becoming an art teacher for K-2nd grade. Changed my job choice when I was 10, I wanted to become a police officer. I always loved watching crime shows as a kid. Now being almost 18, I’m confused as to what I want to be. High School is coming to an end and confused as what I want to major in college.
After my Grandpa’s accident and the death of my mom, my grandpa was left all alone to help and support himself. Before my mom passed, she would help out do things for my grandpa, things he wasn’t able to do himself. With my mom not able to help him, I stepped in to help him; instead of hiring a Caregiver. I helped him with anything and everything he needed. It was hard at times, spending all my time helping him instead of hanging out with friends. Looking back on it now, I don’t regret anything I did. I believe that putting family before friends shaped me into the person I am today.

That wasn’t my plan, I always wanted to have a job that helped benefit me when coming time to follow my career path. I wanted to continue working at the Chateau till I was 18 then go to college, and take classes in nursing. My work hour put an end to that, but isn’t stopping me from being a caregiver. I guess just something about helping the elderly I find fascinating. I loved helping them out, most people might find it boring but it’s not. I enjoy listening to their stories.
