In the field of law enforcement, professions can range from uniformed officers, investigators and the support sections. These three different categories can be found in the local, state and even federal government levels. While working in the line of duty, the public depends on the law enforcement to protect the people and the community in which they live in. Even while off duty officers are expected to enforce authority when necessary. Being professional on and off the clock as a police officer or law enforcement officer can really set the image for yourself as well as your department you represent.

Uniform is worn on a daily basis and making sure your uniform is clean and pressed for your shift tells your co-workers and prisoners how you carry yourself. Looking sharp is part of being professional. Having the proper footwear is essential because having the right pair of boots on can mean the difference between a duty shift in pain and not being able to focus on the job or being relatively comfortable (in terms of feet). As a correctional officer you need to carry various different types of gear. In general, you should have a set of cuffs to restrain, cuff keys, flashlight for searches, gloves for inspections, and radio holder to hold your radio.
Someone in my field of work that can be best described as being professional is keeping their work ethics in check in every single situation they encounter. Having great work ethics and making good decision on and off duty that will reflect positively upon the department or agency in which they work for. Everyday correctional officers must have high morals, integrity and good values as character traits in order to stand firm in the line of duty. Otherwise inmates will use this to their advantage to manipulate and use it to their advantage of a naïve or weak
