No one can deny that nurses work extremely hard; they are the backbone of the healthcare system, they do the jobs that no one wants to do, and much more. Nurses have demanding jobs. They face numerous challenges on a daily basis, in addition to dealing with a stressful work environment caused by insufficient staffing, workplace violence, and mental health issues, to name a few. Nurses are vital to society, but their jobs are extremely stressful, and many people will not choose to work in this field. One of the primary reasons is the job's high level of responsibility. Nurses are responsible for patient's care and well-being, and they must make critical decisions that can have a significant impact on the patient's health outcome. In today's society, my college major is critical. We need more people willing to become nurses as nurse shortages become more common. We will need people to assess patients, administer medication, care for our wounds, educate us, and advocate for us as a society if we are to prosper and grow healthy. When I become a nurse, I plan to advocate for change in order to help my community grow and prosper. It is no secret that white people dominate most career demographics, and this is especially evident in nursing, where 80% are white, 7.2% are Asian, and 6.7% are African American. The disparity is too great to ignore, particularly when it leads to racism in healthcare. There are numerous stories of African Americans being denied care because healthcare workers do not believe in their pain; they have a common stereotype that Black people can handle pain better, which is awful and dehumanizing. I want to increase the number of people of color in my profession by becoming a nurse. I intend to give back to my community by increasing diversity, raising awareness, and finding solutions to racial discrimination in the healthcare
