I feel confident that this program has set me up to be a successful nurse and showed us how much we can do with our University of Iowa education. Along with becoming nurses, this program also encourages us to continue growing by furthering our education and obtaining certifications. Personally, I have thought about looking further into certifications depending on my first job. My area of interest is Women’s Health and the newborn population so I am looking more at certifications such as Electronic Fetal Monitoring, Inpatient Obstetric Nursing, and/or Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing depending on the route I choose.

Admission Essay. The idea of becoming a licensed nurse came to me while working in the hospital as an ultrasound sonographer. Thus, my long-range goal is to help the general population in the future, and for me, this would be through science. Diseases are always emerging, viruses are always adapting, and infections are always getting more potent.
I do not know exactly what I want to do with my life. But this is okay because I have these years in college to discover it and find out. As a little girl, I always dreamed of being in a doctor or surgeon, but as a I grew older and realized the personal experience people receive from nurses and I knew that this would be the best occupation to begin my dream of becoming a Nurse Practitioner with a focus on Women’s Health. In achieving these larger goals, I knew I had to go to new places and experience new obstacles and meet new people considering I’m from an extremely small town. Fortunately, since having moved to Atlanta from that small town in South Georgia, I have been able to step my foot into a medical related environment, the Pharmacy. While my heart still dreams of becoming a nurse, I have been fortunate enough to learn a remarkable amount of information regarding medications, patient’s experiences at the doctor, and insurance related obstacles. With the completion of my Junior 1 semester in nursing program, this past December, I retained the opportunity to perceive who I am, as a nursing student. Transitioning from the prerequisite courses, into Junior 1, greatly altered how I identified myself. This stood as my first experience in college that I truly felt like a nursing student, encased in the nursing profession. As I enter Junior 2, I acquire the impression that I am a dedicated, but stressed, nursing student who is nurturing her nursing abilities and thought processes. Although I advanced through my Junior 1 semester, my main goal, or area of improvement, for my Junior 2 semester stands as building a professional and therapeutic relationship with a patient and his or her support system.
