The University of Iowa’s nursing program has allowed me to grow and learn as a nurse but also contributed to my personal development leading me to who I am today. When applying for colleges, I was very undecided about what I wanted to do with my life but everyone always said to be a nurse and I love helping people so it made sense. Due to my indecisiveness, I only applied to one program, the University of Iowa, and decided that if I didn’t get in, maybe I would do something else. I feel confident that this program has set me up to be a successful nurse and showed us how much we can do with our University of Iowa education. Along with becoming nurses, this program also encourages us to continue growing by furthering our education and obtaining certifications. Personally, I have thought about looking further into certifications depending on my first job. My area of interest is Women’s Health and the newborn population so I am looking more at certifications such as Electronic Fetal Monitoring, Inpatient Obstetric Nursing, and/or Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing depending on the route I choose. Also, I would like to go into SANE nursing as soon as possible after graduation and obtain that certification as I have a passion for this patient population and the related advocacy component (Nurse.org, …show more content…
One that interests me the most and I could join immediately is the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nursing. This organization captures each area of nursing that I am interested in and their work will cover multiple patient populations. I will potentially move between types of Women’s Health units so it would be nice to participate in a catch-all organization. Upon receiving a Nurse Midwifery Certification, I would look into joining the American College of Nurse Midwives Association to further contribute to the occupation that has my heart and help to elevate the care provided by Nurse Midwives (Nurse.org,
