The Finger Lakes Health College of Nursing is an accredited school that offers a comprehensive education with the mindset focused on success. Integrated learning is built into the curriculum based on the foundation of Liberal Arts and Sciences. With these foundations, students have a better understanding, and are prepared for achievement.
Liberal Arts and Science has been the leading pathway for myself to build reasoning, and critical thinking skills which has helped my survival thus far through first semester. The journey through Nursing Science I has been an eye opener. Through clinical, out rotations, along with classroom related projects my education, and knowledge of prior classes such as Developmental Psychology, English, and Anatomy and Physiology I and II have been utilized.
Developmental Psychology was best utilized through the out rotation of Child care, by exposing the study of children. The study of human mental functions, and process integrated with the knowledge of Erikson’s theory of different stages, and development allowed understanding of the children in which I observed. This foundation has been utilized multiple times throughout the semester with creativity through my different Reflective Journals, Care Plans, and Technology papers, such as “Why I want to be a Nurse”. Comprehension of English I feel, is a futile foundation for communication. Without proper oral and written skills, I would not have been able to do as well. Writing and expression is a large part of continuing education. My interest and willingness to complete the writing components required is based off of a confident knowledge base. Students that may not have the proper foundation would be more hesitant and struggle with this
