I believe in doing what you love even when someone says that you’re not good at it. I believe that struggle is crucial in succeeding. I believe in never accepting defeat. From when I was around three years or so, my mother started me on a soccer ball like my previous brothers. I have played on numerous teams and have never stopped playing the game of soccer. Since I have enjoyed playing soccer; I have always had a passion for the game and I have always had same the excitement and exuberance as any other player on game day. Throughout my soccer career, I have not really given tryouts much thought since, for most part it was a fairly safe bet that I was going to make the team. My junior year in high school was no different. I thought that since I made the team my freshman and sophomore year, I had nothing to worry about; my skills were respectable compared to the competition and my attitude was great, but my conditioning was lacking. My mental drive and commitment to the team was present, but that only gets you so far. Whether you make the team or not, your resilience; your ability to rebound and come back the next year with even more intensity and diligence is what really matters. …show more content…

Many athletes try to blame others for their failures. They may try to blame the coaches, another player that took their spot, or even irrepressible factors like weather. For me, I blamed the coaches after I was cut from the team, but ultimately, nothing I said was to going to change the fact that it was my fault. I analyzed my performance and identified my faults, so I spent the next several months, before next year’s tryouts, focusing on those issues. I came back the next year, however, and I got cut once again, but I still learned a valuable lesson: I will not accept defeat, I will not take anything for granted, and I will appreciate the times when I do achieve something
