Thinking back then, I only view mathematics as a subject where complying was the only thing that matters rather than thinking and appreciating its uses in real world problems. Surprisingly, this course brought me back to reality and engraved an idea, or should I say, a reminder, that what I thought back then was wrong because mathematics itself is one of the reasons for our continuous advancements in life. An example can be seen from our industry wherein the production of goods is now simplified and even faster than how it was before, this is because of the production setups (different mixing tanks) and the existence of machines which were the fruits of sciences and mathematics. Now if you think about it, production factories were not designed …show more content…

I may come to realize at this point that maybe I am just a complete masochist for taking up this program, but no, it is not actually like that. The real reason why I took chemical engineering remains as a mystery to me as well, because back then, I was just influenced by my high school friends to take up this program without knowing what I would like to be several years from now. But, thinking about it right now, I guess taking up chemical engineering happened for a reason and it is not that bad at all despite all of those struggles. Well, I could not really say that what I have experienced is a kind of struggle because everything until now is just the beginning towards greater education in this specific field. I know that what lies ahead of me holds a greater amount of stress, and that is why I am quite happy that I considered myself to have experienced some stress before so that once I experience them again, I will definitely not break down like a possessed human …show more content…

I think I am ready to move up as a third year student in this program, but only if my grades and the department permit me to do so. I think that I am at least a little bit confident with my mathematical abilities to the point that I could solve some ordinary differential equations and even transform some mathematical problems into a mathematical model. I only said that I am “a little bit” confident because there is still a great number of problems and differential equations out there that requires a different approach or method in order for it to be modeled or solved. Also, I remembered that time in high school wherein my algebra teacher was dejected that majority of the class were not able to cope up with his discussions because of the reason that we were slow learners and we lack constant practice. That is why he ended sharing his story that he was once an unsatisfactory student who had a trouble coping up with his algebra classes, but because he strives to be better, he switched his priorities and he practiced or solved a lot of problems. He spent a lot of time in front of a desk with a book and made a good use out of it. Now, he finished his studies and became a teacher in algebra where it became his expertise. After hearing this story, I was touched and it left a good lesson to my pathetic self. It opened my eyes
