Growing up in the Philippines, life wasn’t always as easy as it comes to me now. My parents didn’t have the same resources, same teachers, or the same education. Life was harder, in many ways. This is what motivated them to move to the U.S and for us to have a better life. I know this now, I see it in my father’s wrinkles and my mother’s gray hair. They’ve worked hard for a better life for me. Seeing this taught me the importance of being adaptable and how to be flexible, not only in my academics but also in my personal life. When we came here, it was hard learning a whole new language and adapting to the American culture while still keeping my Filipino roots. I've been playing piano since 3rd grade and alto saxophone since 5th. I wasn't sure about being in band when I was younger because I thought that it would take too much of my study time and I just wasn't ready. I joined the following year and I worked hard to start from Beginner Band and now I’m in Symphonic Band 1. Band has taught me a lot of things like teamwork, how to responsible for my instrument, it helped me to learn how to manage my time and really showed me what it meant to be part of a team. I also had my worries about doing piano because I have weekly piano lessons and I have to balance my school work and practicing my instruments. Even though sometimes I still struggle with time management, being in different activities has helped me learn new things and helped me organize myself. I also love traveling and I have been privileged enough to see different parts of the world and traveling with my family, they have shown me how to be street smart and learn to take away something from every culture and language. I believe that I am a good fit for Schuler because I want to learn more and I want to provide a good future for myself. I eventually want to get a job but before that I want to pursue my college education and get a degree. I think that Schuler will be my stepping stone to achieving my
