Everything I do revolves around my music. I have been around music all my life, whether it was listening to it or playing it. I’m very passionate about music and I love playing an instrument. The instrument
This is due to the fact that I wish to be a mentor and educator when all is said and done. I want to help kids, and I want to teach them skills to get them through their lives and be satisfied with them, and to find ways to cope with life’s toughest challenges. I am also passionate about learning the best ways to teach music, theatre, and art, because I have always been the one learning those skills, but never teaching them myself. Also, if I am selected to be either a Recreation Counselor or Outdoor Education Counselor, I am looking forward to learning new skills, and dusting off and developing skills that I may not have touched in a while. I am also looking forward to passing on my experiences not with just the area I am teaching, but with ways to navigate through life, no matter what it may throw at these kids.
Music is about expression for people that don’t get the chance to show it. For the people that know how it feels to be heard but never listened to. And for every kid that walks through the hallway feeling completely alone in the same blur of people you are looked over everyday. For the kids that knows how it feels to be the slowest in the class because no matter how hard or how long you study, you end up with a failing grade. Find your passion what you love the most.
Leadership: taking the initiative to establish a clear vision, share it with those whom are being led a certain direction, and coordinating all interests to accomplish glorious victories. A drum major is not simply the person who conducts the marching band, they are the one responsible for taking on a magnificent leadership role; they must be role model for all of its members and it is their job to make each and every member feel valued, no matter what their position may be. As a drum major, I would strive to lead the East Haven High School North Branford High School Co-op marching band to victory on and off the field. Music is more than that it’s something beautiful produced based on the musicians. For example when we play in class when you feel the emotion and the feeling of playing it’s just so wonderful. Music is the way kids and people show their emotions although even on a bad day we try to play well because we do not want to be the big mess up in class. Music to me is the beginning of my passion. As students, we engage in learning through a more interactive and exciting learning experience.
I plan on becoming a music educator as my career and I feel that this is the best step to make my dream come true. With this step I would not only try my hardest to be the best I can be but I would strive to push everyone
When I was in Year 5, a children's theatre company came to my primary school and performed a show about a journey through space. The use of extravagant costume, aesthetically pleasing proxemics and exaggerated acting really interested me. It was this experience that really opened my eyes to the world of theatre and since then I have been obsessed. I want to study Musical Theatre at university in hopes of having a career in this subject.
Musical Goals: As a PhD student at Duke aspiring to have an academic career, I'd like to pursue music as a serious hobby on the side. I am currently writing/recording a short album (about fifteen to twenty minutes long) and plan to have it published on Bandcamp and YouTube before next May. For live shows, I'll rearrange the songs or write new material that can be performed by a three or four piece band. Two ten to twenty minute shows for students at venues on campus or charity events before next Fall seems to be a realistic goal.
In the article of Steven Johnson, “Could It Be That Video Games Are Good for Kids?” demonstrates that video games can be beneficial to children. On the other hand, some people talks about how harmful that video games may bring to children. More specifically, Johnson gives some instances on how video games shape children’s values and knowledge development.
Music programs are bring cut across the country to put funding towards things such as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs. Without a music program in my school I would not be pursuing music as a career. One experience in particular has given me a testimony to preach when people talk about cutting music programs in schools.
One of interest during elementary school was music, not knowing that it was going to become a talent. In the fourth grade I began to play the recorder, where I found my interest in music, before this time I had no idea on how to play instrument. No one from my family had ever had any experience on playing an instrument or any musical talent. From that point on I had to learn by myself. When entering middle school, I wanted to join the band to learn more about music and try a new instrument.
My goal as an educator will be to expose and illustrate real life skills to my students which in turn will help them design and build their futures. I want to be an educator that inspires others through the art of teaching. Choosing a career is a hard thing to do for a young adult nowadays because there are so many to choose from. If you want to be a band teacher (One why? Teachers are important I know that but really a band teacher you’d be teaching whiny kids in a confined space for seven hours. But I can’t judge I was the one who made this.)
“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything” (Plato). If my childhood was filled with anything: it was imagination. From my earliest memories of my cousin, and I putting on a sold out concert on my papaw’s front porch; to putting my baby dolls to sleep with lullabies. Music has always been a big part of my life: it was the one thing I could always count on, no matter where I went; and that still stands true today.
I can’t wait for my future in music. Whatever it may be, music will always be a part of
