1. Education is an art form and educators sculpt, mold and etch out the next generation of engineers, scientists, teachers, and musicians. Being a teacher is not just telling students what is important to learn but to take what is being taught and how to apply it to their lives. I believe that teaching is an art form that takes years to perfect. There is no “right” way to teach. My goal as an educator will be to expose and illustrate real life skills to my students which in turn will help them design and build their futures. I want to be an educator that inspires others through the art of teaching. The Educators Hall of Fame at East Carolina recognizes the educators that have positively impacted the lives of students and the community they serve. As a future educator that is what I aspire to do. My education through the School of Education at ECU will prepare me for the chance to inspire the students of North Carolina. I have had the privilege of being taught by some of North Carolina’s most amazing teachers. Both my high school instructors and the professors at ECU who I worked with at the Summer Vocal Music Intensives that I attended have had a tremendous influence on me, perhaps life changing. Because of these wonderful educators I know this is the career for me. I am energized, creative, open minded, and I believe that there is music in everyone and I want to bring that spirit out. I want to help students understand the language of music and how it isn’t only notes on a page but a connection to many things in the world. I work hard and I am not afraid to try new strategies and learn new things. As a teacher in a North Carolina school I know I would represent ECU well and the community that I will be teaching in. I believe I should be a recipient of the Educator’s Hall of Fame Scholarship because of my love of music, and dedication to inspire a longing to learn, just as my teachers have done for
