Personal Statement
June 27th 2010, was the day my life completely began to drastically change. At 11 years old, I left the Dominican Republic, my native country, and immigrate to the United States. I had no idea that coming to the United States of America would have such an impact on my life. Moving to the USA changed my life, me and probably my future!
After almost four years, I still have flashbacks to the most frustrating years of my life. In particular my first school year in a new country. I remember myself coming home and wanting to cry my heart out and give up on everything, because I didn't thought I was going to make it. Coming from a Spanish speaking country, not knowing english made everything more difficult. It was tough not being able to speak my mind, because of the lack of language. I think about how many times I knew the answers of the teacher's questions, but couldn't say it. Because of my inability of being able to communicate, I didn't have as many friends as i used to have. I missed my friends and at the time it was almost impossible to make new ones. Although, most of the people knew I couldn't speak english they were friendly and tried to talk to me. I began to learned English. It was complicated and challenging to do so. Since my parents didn't know English neither, making the only opportunity to learn english in school, with the help of teachers and friends. The new language was not the only reason that I could have had giving up for at the the time. The unfamiliar traditions and eccentric society, also seemed to be a problem. Eventually I continue to learn about the American culture and became more familiar with it. After a while I became more comfortable at what now is my new home. I don’t longer be as homesick as
