This comes back to me where I would get good grades and I would be able to pass the class but that was it. I did not fully understand the material I just knew what I needed to pass it and be able to be the “good student” that colleges and businesses look for. After looking back on this, I like Rodriguez realized that there might be more to life than just getting grades and making the schools and businesses
Jesse and Cheyanne Fitzgeneral’s family was one of those impacted by the Oregon shooting. They were pro-gun before and continue to be after the shooting. Mr. Fitzgeneral said, "We should have teachers trained in non-lethal ways to take people down. There is surely a way to defend kids at school. Armed guards on campuses maybe” (Dorstewit).
Not only has it got us away from learning probability but with social life, family, and working.
It has been so amazing taking this class because so many things are developed from the knowledge of chemistry. Before this class, I have never realized how much of my life actually revolved around it. It is so awesome to think that every time I go into my room and see the painting on the wall, chemistry was used to come up with the optimal paint used for it. It is also fascinating that temperature has such a large role in the compound of the paint itself. I have always noticed that the paint on houses in Arizona always seems to chip faster that the houses in a slightly colder area.
In a world with ever-growing challenges, there is a lot that is still left unknown and I would like to contribute to find what is still unknown; also, college would serve as a representation of a new stage in my life. I would like to go to college to gain knowledge and to accomplish a rite of passage. Ever since I was a kid I wanted to know what a certain concept meant or was, I wanted to know how the earth revolved around the sun, and I wanted to know why the dinosaurs were not present. Now, I want to understand what human nature is, how neurons generate electrical impulses, and why humans are considered a superior species. It is my natural human instinct: the desire to gain knowledge!
In life I have noticed leadership to be a key attribute of mine. This was not a quality I would seek to obtain, it was more like one bestowed upon me. Growing up I was the second oldest and only daughter of four children. Though we were rich in spirit, financial hardships made it difficult and at times impossible to fulfill the basic needs and wants of most kids. With the odds stacked against us, I began at a young age to realize that I had to take charge, I had to make a change, I had to lead.
The Little Things It was only till my senior year of high school that I realized I needed to appreciate the little things in life more. This valuable lesson was taught to me while I was taking a class called Peer Assist. During the course of this class, select students helped disabled kids attending the high school work on the physical aspects of their life. We would develop work out routines for them, encourage them, and be their friend.
Knowing how to sing is a blessing that may come naturally to some people, but to others it requires practice and effort to learn how to properly develop this gift. Having seen many live performances and having a dad who could sing was an inspiration for me to develop such a talent. Music has always been my passion, and I knew that singing would give me another exciting opportunity to enjoy the feeling performance creates. I did not have a natural voice from a young age so learning to sing was challenging and pushed me beyond my orchestral limits--emotionally and physically--but with the strong desire I had and the toil I was willing to endure when learning this art, I persevered to becoming a singer.
I knew I liked science and I didn’t want to fail at it, so I bought books and studied. It was a challenging class, yet my dedication paid off to only further my persistence and drive to
With a Bachelors and Master’s degree in a field which I love, I will be able to pursue my dream of working and administrating a laboratory. While enrolled at the University, I fell in love with the studies of Microbiology but felt the need to maintain my original major of Biochemistry. My initial major choice of Biochemistry was greatly influenced by my teachers at Foxcroft Academy, George Rolleston and Robert Weber. Mr. Rolleston made Chemistry interesting for me as I eagerly took every course which he offered. By the end of my junior year, I had taken all Chemistry courses offered at Foxcroft Academy and had my mind set upon a college career involving Chemistry as well.
I understood that in the next phase of my life, I can take all of these lessons, and people to achieve my next goal of earning my college degree. Today, that is earning a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of
Lastly, I am also taking college classes to further educate myself in subjects that I enjoy. With the countless number of possible majors available, there is a great deal of classes that cover a wide variety of subjects. Attaining a college education has always been important to me and my family. My reasons for taking college classes represent my own personal will.
We must acknowledge that there will be times where we lose our position, only to realize where we stand. Growing up life seemed hard, but now I realized how amazing it was; I had a family who loved me and I was never seen different (discriminated), I was always told I had four very impart jobs: have respect for people even if I didn’t like them, do good in school, always ask questions and never forget where I came from, little did I know I realized where I came from after I left. When I came to the United States of America, New York became a dream, but we must all wake up and stop dreaming; I did after my mother past away a year after I’ve arrived. The world became gray, for I was very downhearted and life felt like death because of all the
Have you ever felt like you’re been forced or not been given enough choices or opportunities when it comes to learning things that interest and fascinate you? Think about the interminable lists of fields of study we have around the world. It’s truly endless. There are different kinds of sciences, arts, social studies, history and the list goes on. Ever sat down and thought, “When am I ever going to use this knowledge about blah blah math and stuff and when will it ever be useful in my life if I aspire to be a painter?”
Even though I still need more work for my chemistry I believe I can be ready for it for a second time and do better by studying more. All the challenges I had faced on my academic journey, I was able to find out that hard work and dedication will help me overcome many difficulties in any subject. The challenges I faced so far will help me thrive in college and lead to
