Some of the tiniest things can make a world of difference for some people. For example, George Dawson loved his mother’s biscuits. I think in my life the tiniest thing that makes me happy is research. It has helped me through hard times. Research makes me happy.
Everyone has someone in their life that gives them a great amount of inspiration. The people that have given me the most inspiration are my Grandparents. My Mamaw has done a great deal for me in my life. My Papaw has done something with his life that nobody expected him to do. My Grandparents have greatly changed my life.
No matter what time zone I am in, my phone buzzes most frequently when I am asleep. Whether a missed call from a friend in Kenya, an email from a musical collaborator in Canada, or a LinkedIn message from a U.K. investor in my educational startup, I eagerly wake each morning to many new notifications. Growing up, I traveled extensively, living on three different continents. In fact, my passport looked like my coloring book. Learning five languages and adapting to foreign environments while maintaining my identity, has taught me to value different skills, including networking.
Growing up in a Christian household has nurtured my walk with God throughout my life. Since a young age, I have known God as my personal savior, but my faith and trust in Him have grown over the past several years. This past summer, I took part in a worship leader internship program at our church, which provided me with the opportunity to plan and lead worship services. Participating in this program helped me grow closer to God, but it also taught me how to be a leader rather than a follower. As God continues revealing His plan for my life, I feel called to attend Verity and to pursue my passion with a career in law enforcement.
An individual who has had a significant impact in my life would be Maribeth Holland. Maribeth Holland has been in inspiration to me for quite a bit of time. I would put her in the category of being my mentor, although her official title to me would be my teacher. Holland has been an inspiration to me throughout my Junior and Senior years of high school at Fountain Central. She has helped me to become a better student.
“Peace is not absence of conflict, it is the ability to handle conflict by peaceful means.” Ronald Reagan once made this statement and its meaning resonates with me personally. When he made this statement he recognized conflict’s inevitability and the need to have the ability to resolve conflicts peacefully. This reality is what drives me to pursue my Master’s degree in Political Science with a concentration in United Nations and Global Policy Studies. With the rise of globalization it is becoming increasingly important for the US to have representatives who are able to successfully interact with individuals from other countries.
Going to college is probably one of the most important things that I have done in my life so far. Thinking back to everything I have done in the past ten years or so, I can see that taking to leap of faith to join college and further my education was such a huge step for me and I am glad that I did. Before I joined Southern New Hampshire University, I knew I would need some motivation to enroll. I remember a story my father told me about how he had gone to Technical College and became a licensed Master Mechanic and that really motivated me to want to further my education. Also, my brother had talked to me about two months ago and had told me his experience with going to college to earn his English degree and me, being the competitive brother I am, didn’t want him to be the only sibling to earn a degree.
History from the Inside was my first in-depth look at history and how it shaped the modern world. So naturally, I did not answer many of the questions on the Admission Test correctly. One of the questions that I was not sure about at all was “What do you think the terms “westernization” and “globalization” mean, when did the processes they name begin, and who is, or was being “westernized” or “globalized”?” Over the past few terms, I have been able to learn much more about these topics.
The Things I Carry We carry many things with us each day. Things that are physical such as chap stick, or a necklace that means a lot to us, and we also carry with us things that are emotional like our secrets, feelings and our troubles. With out these things we would feel lost or out of place because these things, these tiny things we may feel are irrelevant, become apart of who we are.
A year ago if you had asked me what I carried my answer would have been, “I carry my shame, my depression, and my anxiety, I carry my fear of others opinions, and I carry my scars which I am ashamed of, and the constant reminder I am but a failure” and at that time this is what I genuinely believed. These being unseen, unknown burdens I carried with me everywhere I went. I had severe depression since the 6th grade and never thought I would be strong enough to one day overcome it. Asked today what I carry, I would assure I carry my pride, my grades and my progress, high and mighty. I would say I carry my happiness and my healthiness as if it were a trophy.
The Future. It’s a dark and unknown figment of the imagination, at least until someone is staring it right in the eye about to take it on head first. Many people go about their future in this way: just jumping in without any solid plan and hoping for the best. I, on the other hand, have been lucky enough to have a somewhat solid grasp on what I want my future to look like. Furthermore, after spending two weeks of my summer at an architecture camp at Ball State University, that grasp has become even stronger.
Ever since grade school, I was passionate about working in the field of medicine, and science. I enjoyed anatomy, medical spelling and terminology, and reading about the healthcare industry. Because of my passion for healthcare, I decided to to attend Health Sciences High. There, I was given the best opportunities, such as, medical internships and college health courses. My plans and goals had turned me into a mature young adult.
A Little At A Time I don’t have big, great, and innovative ideas as to how I’d like to give back to Hawai’i. My goal is to further my education so that one day I do have big, great, and innovative ideas as to how I’d like to give back to Hawaii. Until then, I want to do whatever little things I can. I believe that the little things in life make a big difference.
We must acknowledge that there will be times where we lose our position, only to realize where we stand. Growing up life seemed hard, but now I realized how amazing it was; I had a family who loved me and I was never seen different (discriminated), I was always told I had four very impart jobs: have respect for people even if I didn’t like them, do good in school, always ask questions and never forget where I came from, little did I know I realized where I came from after I left. When I came to the United States of America, New York became a dream, but we must all wake up and stop dreaming; I did after my mother past away a year after I’ve arrived. The world became gray, for I was very downhearted and life felt like death because of all the
Even the little things mean a lot. Such as, Giving, passing on the kindness, and the little things people do for you every now and then. Giving Yesterday, a girl told me about a story of someone giving to her. Almost every girl had an American girl doll in her grade. Yet her family was not able to afford one.
