College Admissions Essay: My Passion For Dance

When I was about four or five years old, I was introduced to Ballet. I adored being a little ballerina and would read the same dance booklet everyday, practicing the five positions and gracefully positioning my tiny arms and fingers to match the little girl in the illustrations. This opened my heart to the world of dance, which made me embrace the activity at such a young and impressionable age. Because I loved dance so much, my mother enrolled me in Donna Hammond-Phelps Centre for Dance while I was in kindergarten. In the studio, I stood out and had a lot more confidence than I did outside of the studio. My passion for dance helped to shape my character because while I tend to be shy and a low profile, my talent in dance puts me in the spotlight and allows me to shine without having to speak. …show more content…

My talents never fail to catch people off guard, all because of the fact that they would not expect for a quiet person like be to so passionate about dancing. Everyday I would go to school and none of my classmates, except for my best friends, would ever suspect that I was a dancer due to the fact that I refrain from being boastful. Nonetheless, once there is an assembly and my friends put me on the spot to dance, everyone that watches me is taken aback. People who know of me would approach me saying that they never knew I could dance so well because I¿m such a reserved person. For example, in the 6th grade, I danced at an assembly with two of my other friends in front of the whole school. As soon as I began to move, I could see my friends and teachers smiling at me from the bleachers. "Wow Shaniya, you did a terrific job out there!
