Philosophy of Education
Most of the positive impacting memories I hold are of educators that have helped push me on a better path. Helping others has always given me a sense of accomplishment knowing that someone has learned something new. It is what motivated me to become an educator myself, for I want to impact other lives as a way to pass it on forward.
I believe that schooling serves a very important purpose in every child’s life, for it prepares them to mentally take on their aspirations and dreams. In order for children to achieve this all, the role of the teacher in a classroom has to be fulfilled. A teacher plays many roles within his/her classroom. In other words, the classroom should not be an environment where students purely learn by textbook instruction. It should be an open atmosphere where they learn by doing and experimenting. This creates a classroom that is more student-centered where they make their own discoveries, which allows them to become more individualized and it also permits them to think outside the box. It should also be a place where students of all sorts can go in feeling as a whole altogether. Of course, education is not the same for everyone. Some children need that little additional boost and assistance in order to get to an intermediate level. There are also some that are well above that level who need to be challenged on a different platform. The educational system is already standardized enough as it is, but that does not mean that children should all reach those goals in the same manner.
